2008 Spring Concert at Winters Mill Theater

This year’s performance is going to create an experience of a lifetime! Professional sets, costumes, special effects, dancing with our friends… all what every young performer dreams about being a part of.  Our teachers, choreographers, and tech crew are already in the planning stages of this concert, so get excited!  It looks like it will be an amazing experience!

We order costumes in January, so please have all your fees paid so you can join us.

Very Important Information!  We understand that schedules can get crazy at certain times of the year.  However, we must adhere to certain rules when it comes to putting on the best shows in town.  If, from January to June, dancers miss more than three of their regularly scheduled classes and/or rehearsals due to illnesses, other commitments, vacations, etc., we ask that you withdraw from participating in the show.  If young dancers are not prepared for a performance, they risk serious injury.  This rule is of greatest importance for the safety of our children. This will be strictly enforced. This is a team effort, and it isn’t fair to the dancers who are practicing to get it perfect.  There will be no refunds for costumes or other fees that were ordered if you cannot perform in the concert.

Universal Rules & Regulations
  • There will be no talking or disruptive behavior in any class at any time and is cause for immediate dismissal of the student from the classroom and possibly the school.
  • At no point should a student remark to any correction and direction a teacher or supervisor gives to a student.  It is the job of every teacher to correct students.  If indeed a student wishes not to receive any corrections, he or she may make prior arrangements.
  • Students' appearance in class must be neat and clean at all times.  ALL students, even the youngest, must wear a cover-up over dancewear when leaving the building.  All dancewear should be labeled with student's name.
  • Sweat-pants/shorts and plastic pants/shorts may not be worn during any portion of ballet classes.
  • Tight fitting leg-warmers are permitted at the barre only and at the teacher's discretion.
  • No jewelry should be worn, except for small stud earrings.  Heavy jewelry is not allowed.
  • No visible body piercing or tattoos.  No bold fingernail polish will be permitted.
  • Dancewear is to be kept in good repair and laundered on a regular basis.
  • Students are expected to observe good personal hygiene habits.
  • The teacher reserves the right to dismiss from class any student not in dress code.
  • Hair should be neatly pulled back off the face and neck and secured for all classes.
  • Students will not be admitted into class late.  This rule will be strictly enforced unless the student has been previously excused.  If a dancer is permitted into a class late, they should wait outside the classroom until the teacher recognizes them and then may they enter in-between an exercise.
  • Do not allow your children to wait outside alone.  All students must wait inside the studio for rides.
  • In case of snow or inclement weather, please follow the school schedule.  If the schools are closed, we will be closed.   Call the studio (410-848-6048) for additional recorded information.  Also, check your radio and TV for area closings.  We do not guarantee all make up classes due to poor weather, however efforts will be made.  (The last week of June is reserved for such make ups.)
  • Hair:  ALL girls are required to tie or pin back their hair.  Ballet dancers should be prepared with nets and hair spray.
  • Outerwear:  Pre-school children should come with easy on, easy off outerwear.  Example: Front button or zip sweater, jacket, or sweatshirt (as to not mess hair before class).
  • Attendance:  Since each level advances during the year, each student must fulfill the requirements of their level; therefore, good attendance is required.  The studio should be called if there will be an absence.  The student should then apply for a make up lesson as soon as possible (no later than a month) in a class of the child's level or a lower level if the student wishes to maintain progress.
  • Observations:  Observation of classes takes place during one week of each semester.  Video cameras and still cameras are NOT allowed in the studio.  We must adhere to the privacy rights of all dancers in the classroom.
  • Waiting:  Parents may wait in the outer lobby. The lobby must remain quiet.  Parents and family members are not allowed in the dance studios when class is in session (except for observation week) because there may be disruptions in class.
  • Pick-up & Drop-off: Students should be dropped off and picked up within 15 minutes of the beginning and end of class. State of the Arts Dance & Music Center cannot be responsible for students left in the facility outside of these time restrictions.
  • No refunds are given for classes missed due to snow days, illness, vacation, or dancers excused from class due to behavior or lack of required uniforms.
  • Limitations placed on a student by a physician are respected.
  • Parent’s Responsibility to be Aware of Dates and Events:  It is the responsibility of the parent or adult student to be aware of all school activities, such as viewing days, recitals, extra classes, and dates the school is open or closed. The school will post all such notices on the “What’s New” board or the bulletin board as well as sending notices home with the students, and posting information on our website www.sotadance.com.  It is the parent’s responsibility to regularly check these boards to ensure they are informed.  It is the responsibility of the parents or adult students to inform the school of any address or telephone number changes.
